  • One week after a shipment of North Dakota’s Bakken crude historically arrived in the Netherlands following Congress’ lift of the Oil Export Ban, the Bakken is attracting more national attention.

Tessa Sandstrom, spokeswoman for the North Dakota Petroleum Council, said that Republican Presidential Candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump have both shown an interest in attending the Williston Basic Petroleum Conference in Bismarck at the end of May.

North Dakota is the second largest energy producing state in the nation, an issue that both the Trump and Cruz campaigns have noted along the campaign trail in response to comments from Democratic candidates calling for a ban on fracking.
